Methodology
This page explains exactly how FilingLens identifies commitments, what each status means, where the method is limited, and how we handle errors. If you intend to rely on an output, read this first.
What counts as a commitment
FilingLens identifies forward-looking statements in which management states an intended action, target or outcome. A statement is recorded as a commitment when it contains both an action or outcome and a timeframe, explicit or clearly implied.
Examples of what is recorded:
- "We expect to complete the facility expansion by the end of fiscal 2026."
- "We will reduce operating expenses by approximately 8% over the next two quarters."
Examples of what is not recorded:
- General statements of ambition with no timeframe or measurable outcome.
- Analyst questions, third-party statements, and statements attributed to parties other than company management.
- Standard forward-looking-statement safe-harbour language.
How status is determined
| Status | Definition |
|---|---|
| Delivered | A later filing or disclosure states the commitment was met, on or before the stated timeframe. |
| Revised | A later filing or disclosure restates the commitment with changed scope, figures or timing. |
| Delayed | A later filing or disclosure acknowledges the commitment but places it beyond the originally stated timeframe. |
| Unresolved | No subsequent disclosure addressing this commitment was found in the documents analysed. This is not evidence that the commitment was abandoned. |
Status is determined by searching the subsequent documents supplied by the user for language addressing the same commitment. FilingLens can only assess documents that have been uploaded. A commitment marked Unresolved may have been addressed in a press release, 8-K, investor presentation or other disclosure that was not part of the analysis.
Limitations
- Extraction is automated and can misidentify scope, conditionality or the party making a statement.
- Paraphrased or restated commitments may not be matched to their original.
- Conditional statements ("if market conditions allow, we would...") are difficult to assess and may be recorded or omitted inconsistently.
- Coverage is limited to the documents uploaded in a given analysis.
- Status reflects what the analysed documents state, not independently verified real-world outcomes.
Review status
Each entry is labelled with its review status:
- Automated — extracted by the system, not individually checked by a person.
- Reviewed — a person has compared the entry against both source documents and confirmed the quotation, timeframe and status.
All entries published by FilingLens in public research are Reviewed. Entries generated inside the product for your own uploads are Automated unless marked otherwise.
Corrections
If you believe an entry is wrong, email corrections@filinglens.io with the company, the entry and the source passage. We will check it against the source documents and, if the entry is incorrect, correct it and record the correction on our corrections page. Corrections to published research are not removed silently.
